the brief

fda Design / Illustration
dp06/ work placement/ live project
deadline: 01/12/08} 10 am

*introduction}
your work placement is a learning experience and it is worth remembering that you will be assessed on your ability to understand and evaluate your experience rather than how well you performed on placement. Where you did your placement and the work you produced are not as important as your ability to analyse what you did, record this process and use it to inform future work.

*background research} audience?/ facts?/ figures?/ technical info?/ relevant artists?/ designers?/ cultural artefacts?/ products?/ social history?/ online resources?/
what did you do to prepare for placement? what books did you read? what online resources did you use? who did you speak to? how did you ensure that you were on top of things during the placement?
how does your experience relate to the time we are living in? what economic/ social factors have
affected your experience?

*Brief} Record & Evaluate your experience while on work placement or doing a live project.

Firstly- give an account of the process of finding a placement- were you successful, if so why? if not why not? gather together Emails, letters, records of phonecalls made and the things you sent out.

Then- give a daily account of what you did on the placement. You will do this partly through designing a journal and recording your experience against aims and objectives. This journal must be printed and should be designed appropriately- i.e bound and laid out with consideration to the subject matter. You should consider appropriate formats (a journal/ calendar/ instruction manuals/ guide books/ maps/ diaries etc) and also how you organize and break down the information to make it accessible and emphasise the points you need to make. include visual material- photographs/ diagrams/ charts/
artwork produced/ printed samples etc...

Finally- use 2000 words to discuss what you have learnt and how this learning will influence your
experience in the second year of this course and beyond. How will it affect your 14 week plan? has it
influenced your career plans? set aims and objectives for putting this work into practice.
Include this piece of writing in your journal.
